Late Summer Cleaning Checklist
What to Focus on this Season
During this last month of summer, while you’re soaking up every last minute of sun and fun, start to consider some seasonal cleaning. Compile a late summer cleaning checklist to help refresh your home before the fall. A mix of deep cleaning and storage solutions should help keep your space decluttered.
Late Summer Cleaning Checklist
While some may still be in vacation mode, the approaching seasonal transition is a great time to take care of some cleaning tasks. Here are a few areas to focus on this month to help make the job more manageable.
- Floors. Tracking in sand, garden dirt, and wet feet means your carpets could use shampooing and your hard floors need mopping.
- Bathrooms. The added humidity in the air increases the chances of mold and mildew growth around your sink and shower. Wash curtains, liners, and other crevices surrounding these areas.
- Patio. Frequent use of outdoor spaces require added attention to furniture, decking, and the grill.
- Exterior Surfaces. While it’s still warm outside, power wash siding, fences, retaining walls, and any other area with extensive dirt and grime.
- Air Filters. HVAC systems have been working overtime and could use a clean air filter. Wash or replace yours to help improve air quality and efficiency.
- Washer and Dryer. More outdoor activities could mean more dirt and stains to clean. Refresh your appliances and empty the lint catcher.
- Garbage Disposal and Dishwasher. Sanitize your garbage disposal and dishwasher to remove leftover food particles.
- Organize and Store Seasonal Items. If you haven’t used something this year, consider donating anything gently used and discard anything broken. Gradually begin to swap summer items for autumn ones.
Keeping your home clean and organized year-round doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Doing a little each season helps break up the larger tasks and gives you time to relax and enjoy the best parts of this time of year.
