How to Get Rid of Urine Smell on Carpeting

Maybe it’s your new puppy or aging cat that is having a hard time controlling their bladder, and the urine smell meets your nostrils as you walk into the carpeted room. Few things can cover up the ammonia scent. How do you get rid of the odor?

How to Get Rid of Urine Smell

Blot Dry. If it’s a new stain, soak up as much as the urine as possible. You can use a thick layer of paper towels or a rag. Stand on the cloth for a minute at a time, and repeat until the area is as dry as possible. Then rinse with clean, cool water and dry.

Use a Special Product. Use a pet odor neutralizer if the stain is set-in. You can likely find them at your local pet store or home improvement store.

Don’t Use a Steam Cleaner. The heat can permanently set the odor and stain by bonding the protein to man-made fibers. This will have the opposite effect you need!
