10 Ways to Make Cleaning More Manageable

Even if you’ve set a schedule, broken up the tasks, and create a regular routine, cleaning can still feel like a chore—especially if you already have a full-time job. Here are some tips to help make cleaning more manageable.
Make a list.
It doesn’t all have to get done right away, but it helps to keep track of what needs to get done eventually.
Start with five minutes.
Whether it’s making the bed right before you get dressed or picking up one piece of clutter before you leave the house, start small and build upon the task once it becomes a routine.
Set a timer.
Don’t think you have enough time to get everything done? Set a timer for 10 minutes. How many cleaning tasks can you accomplish? Wipe the counters and sweep the floors before the buzzer and make it into a game.
Adjust around schedules.
If you work irregular shifts or your schedule changes daily/weekly/monthly, give yourself time to adjust to a new routine.
Clean as you go.
It’s easier to tidy up when you see something that needs cleaning than to wait and try and tackle everything at the same time.
Enlist help.
Kids can pick up their toys, partners can help prepare and/or clean up meals, professional cleaners are in business for a reason. You don’t have to do it all yourself.
Buy tools you want to use.
Cleaning products should make the job easier. Only use what’s easy to maneuver and doesn’t make it harder to clean.
Treat yourself.
Once things are clean, celebrate with a rest, day trip, or dinner out.
Stay consistent.
Building cleaning habits can help keep your house fresher, longer. Doing a little bit at a time not only keeps areas clean but it also makes any deep clean easier.
Embrace the mess.
It’s a good reminder that your house is lived in and loved.
Your cleaning routine may not look like everyone else’s, and that’s okay. Once it becomes overwhelming, it’s time to try some alternatives. Make it manageable for you and your family, do what you can, and give yourself grace if it doesn’t all get done when you want. There’s always tomorrow.
