How to Have a Healthy Vacation
Prevent Germs Before, During & After a Trip
Vacation is supposed to be about more relaxing and less worrying. However, you can still run into germs on the way to your destination and while you’re staying in a hotel or rental. Taking a few precautions and preparations can help you have a healthy vacation and not bring bacteria back home.
How to Have a Healthy Vacation
Germs don’t take a day off. Even though they’re always around, you can prevent them from ruining your next trip. Having a plan in place makes it easier to stay healthy before, during, and after you hit the road. Here are some germ-free vacation suggestions:
- Research location and accommodations. Familiarize yourself with any potential health risks, such as food and water safety and insect-borne diseases. Look for hotel or house reviews about cleanliness and know what kind of amenities are available. Don’t be afraid to ask for additional cleaning service if the room you’re occupying shows signs of dirt and grime.
- Talk to a doctor. Discuss your travel plans with a professional and get any necessary vaccines or prescriptions.
- Pack sanitizer. You’re not always going to have soap and water available to wash your hands, and even facilities on planes and roadside rest stops aren’t exactly the cleanest.
- Stash disinfectant wipes. Quickly and efficiently clean surfaces around your space.
- Add to your first aid kit. In addition to the everyday pain killers and band aids, add some additional protection against colds, insects, and digestive issues incase a bug does bite.
- Relax. Stress doesn’t scare germs away. In fact, it can exacerbate a weakened immune system. Prioritize sleep and a healthy diet to boost your immunity. Remember that you’re taking precautions and try to focus on enjoying yourself.
- Wash up. When you get home, wash your hands, clothes, and luggage thoroughly. Disinfect anything that could have come in contact with contaminated surfaces, such as the floor of public spaces.
With a little preparation, you can make the most out of your time away and reduce the risk of germs making you sick before, during, and after your next adventure.
