What Not to Clean This Summer

The summer months can be a great time to take a break from school, work, and cleaning. There are some tasks that are better left to cooler days. If you’re looking for a reason to skip some chores this season, this is it.
What not to clean when it’s too hot and humid
The rise in heat and humidity can make some cleaning tasks more difficult. Save these areas for when it’s cooler:
- Windows. Cleaning solutions can dry too quickly in the heat and potentially leave streaks.
- Carpets. Excess humidity can prevent carpets from drying properly.
- Outdoor Furniture, Patios, and Walkways. High heat and direct sunlight can cause cleaning products to evaporate before they work effectively.
- Grills. While you can use a specially designed brush to scrape debris off hot grill grates, wait until it cools to clean the rest.
- Air Conditioners. Coils are working overtime this time of year, so schedule maintenance tasks for cooler days to help prevent damage.
- Garage and Attic. Put off decluttering the hottest areas of your home until you can comfortably move around the space.
If you have to clean any of these spaces during the summer, schedule some time in the early morning or late evening when it’s cooler. Keep in mind that some of these areas are also more likely to get dirty again, especially after a summer rain. Put them at the top of your list for fall when it’s more comfortable for you and more efficient for your cleaning solutions.
